Getting started

What area do you serve?

We are based outside Brandon, Mississippi and primarily serve Brandon, Flowood, Pearl, Rankin County, the Jackson metro area, and surrounding communities. We also regularly work with clients who travel from farther away for training, and board-and-train is a popular option for owners outside the metro.

Do you take board-and-train dogs from out of state?

Yes. Out-of-state families drop off at the start of the program and come back to Brandon for the go-home lessons at the end. Plan to stay in a nearby hotel or Airbnb for about four days so you get several hands-on sessions with your dog before the drive home. Drop-off and go-home dates are scheduled around your travel.

How do I get started?

The first step is scheduling a free evaluation. We will meet you and your dog, talk through the problems you are having, assess your dog's behavior and temperament, and discuss what you would like life with your dog to look like. From there, we can recommend the training option that makes the most sense for you.

How quickly will you get back to me?

Calls and texts are usually returned the same business day, and always within 24 hours. Our normal reply window is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The fastest way to reach us is a call or text to 601-751-8840.

Programs & pricing

How long does training take?

That depends on the dog, the problems we are working through, your goals, and how consistently the training is maintained at home. Some behaviors improve quickly, while others require more time and repetition. Both private lesson programs and board-and-train stays typically run four to eight weeks. After evaluating your dog, we can recommend the program that makes the most sense for your specific situation.

How much does training cost?

Pricing depends on the dog, your goals, and the level of training needed. Instead of trying to recommend a program without meeting your dog, we start with a free evaluation so we can understand what you are dealing with and recommend the best option. We also offer third-party financing options for qualified clients who would prefer to break the investment into payments.

What is the difference between private lessons and board-and-train?

Private lessons are a great option for owners who want hands-on coaching and want to be involved throughout the entire training process. Board-and-train allows us to work with your dog more intensively and consistently before teaching you how to maintain the results at home. During your evaluation, we can help determine which option makes the most sense for your dog, schedule, and goals.

Do you offer virtual or online coaching?

Yes. Virtual coaching works well for owners outside our service area, for follow-up after a program, and for owners who want structured guidance before their puppy is old enough for in-person training. It is not a fit for every case, especially serious aggression, so we will tell you honestly if in-person work is the better path.

Do you guarantee results?

No ethical dog trainer can guarantee exactly how a living animal will respond or promise that every behavioral problem will completely disappear. What we can promise is that we will be honest with you about your dog, give you a clear plan, teach you how to implement it, and work hard to help you achieve the best realistic outcome possible. Board-and-train clients also receive lifetime follow-up lessons so you are never left on your own.

What if my dog doesn't improve?

Dog training is a partnership between the trainer, the dog, and the owner. Our job is to give you a clear training system, coach you through it, and help you troubleshoot problems along the way. Your results will also depend heavily on how consistently the training is maintained outside of our sessions. If something is not working, we want to identify why and adjust the approach rather than simply continuing to do more of the same thing.

Training approach

What does 'balanced training' actually mean?

Balanced training means we use both rewards and consequences to clearly communicate with your dog. We reward the behaviors we want and hold dogs accountable for behaviors they already understand but choose not to follow. The goal is not to punish dogs. The goal is to create clear communication, reliability, and a better relationship between you and your dog.

What tools do you use in training?

The tools we use depend on the individual dog, the behavior we are working on, and the goals of the owner. That may include food, toys, slip leads, long lines, prong collars, remote collars, place beds, crates, and other training equipment. There is no one tool that every dog needs, and we will show you exactly how and why anything is being used.

Why not just use positive reinforcement only?

Positive reinforcement is a huge part of our training, and we use it every day. The problem is that rewards alone do not always give you a reliable way to address behaviors your dog finds more rewarding than what you have to offer. Real life requires dogs to understand both what they should do and what they should not do, especially when safety and reliability matter.

Do you use e-collars (remote collars)?

Yes, when appropriate. We do not simply put an e-collar on a dog and start correcting them. Dogs are first taught what the collar means and how to respond to it, and owners are taught how to use it correctly. For many dogs, it becomes an extremely useful communication tool that can provide greater reliability and freedom.

Will I have to use training tools forever?

Not necessarily. Tools are there to help create communication and reliability, not to become a substitute for training. How long a particular tool is needed depends on the dog, your goals, the environment, and the level of reliability you expect. We teach owners how to use tools correctly and how to make good decisions once formal training is complete.

Will my dog still have their personality after training?

Absolutely. Our goal is not to create robots. We want your dog to still play, explore, interact with you, and enjoy being a dog while also understanding boundaries and being able to listen when it matters.

Behavior problems

Do you work with aggressive dogs?

Yes. We work with dogs displaying aggression, reactivity, resource guarding, bite histories, and other serious behavioral problems. Every case is evaluated individually because aggression can have different causes, risks, and realistic outcomes. Our first step is determining what is actually going on and whether we are the right fit for your dog.

Do you train puppies?

While we can work with puppies, we typically recommend starting structured training around 6 months or older, when dogs are more developmentally ready for consistent obedience work. Even before that age, we can provide owners with guidance and practical pointers on these foundational skills so they can start building good habits early. Once they reach that stage, training can quickly establish good habits around crate training, potty training, leash walking, engagement, boundaries, socialization, and basic obedience before undesirable behaviors become deeply established.

My dog already knows commands. Why won't they listen?

Knowing a command and reliably performing it around distractions are two different things. Many dogs understand what "come," "down," or "place" means but have never been taught that those commands still matter when something more interesting is happening. A major part of our training is taking behaviors your dog understands and building them into reliable obedience in real life.

Can you fix my dog without me having to do anything?

No, and I would be cautious of anyone who tells you otherwise. We can make a tremendous amount of progress with your dog, but long-term success depends on you understanding how to maintain that training at home. A major part of what we do is train the owner, not just the dog.
